The first time I tried dragon fruit I was in Cambodia and let me tell you….although the taste was bland I fell in love with this fruit. The outside is fuchsia with dashes of green and the inside is white with black seeds, just looking at it makes me happy. I used to enjoy dragon fruit drizzled with honey and crunchy almond for a healthy breakfast.
Dragon fruit is available almost everywhere nowadays and what better way to enjoy this fruit, than by mixing it with berries and top it up with dairy free ice cream? Serve it inside the skin that turns into a bowl and……here we go, your fancy fruit salad, is served.

Let’s answer this basic question if you have never seen, heard or tried an Idli. Idli are: exquisite, fluffy, savoury, rice pillow shape cakes; perfect breakfast food in South of India. And, for my kids perfect snack any time of the day.
Lately I grew bored with blini, bigne, crostini or any of the usual way of serving smoked salmon. After enjoying smoked salmon on Capers Madeleine with smoked salmon and coriander chutney, I wanted to try it with Idli and the result leaves no doubt….love at first bite….. The sourness of the Idli marries perfectly well the saltiness of smoked salmon and creaminess of the mascarpone to finish add some lemon to clean up your palate and be ready for the next one.
Find the recipe below, and hope you will enjoy as much as we do.
Idli with smoked salmon

I don’t know about your kids amazing friends, but mine like to eat all kind of cereals except cornflakes. Once in a while I buy mono portion cereals for school, and the only ones that never end up in the back pack are…..you guessed…. the cornflakes. That make me think on how to incorporate cornflakes in a recipe, and what better way to use cornflakes than by making Rose del Deserto cookies of course…..
……Desert Rose cookies are deliciously crunchy cookies on the outside and soft on the inside…..perfect way to utilise the not so loved cornflakes.

October and the Oktoberfest…..what better way to celebrate your Oktoberfest at home than with this super tasty Pretzel. This is our favorite recipe and kids always help me making the perfect soft homemade pretzel…
The most difficult part is to wait till pretzel are warm to enjoy it with hot mustard or dipped in melted cheese.
Let’s start with a bit of history about this pastry.
Apple Strudel or Apfelstrudel, is a famous Viennese strudel, a popular pastry in Austria and in many parts of Europe that once belonged to the Austro Hungarian Empire.
Strudel is related to the Ottoman Empire’s pastry baklava, that came to Austria from Turkey via Hungarian cuisine, Wikipedia docet…….
Apple Strudel is a long strudel pastry jacket with an apple filling.
There are so many different recipe for this extraordinary pastry but the one that our family enjoys the most is the one that I am sharing with you today.
I think the trickiest part of preparing a Strudel is in rolling the dough in an almost see trough sheet. I usually start rolling the dough with the rolling-pin and then I pull it with my knuckle, this picture will show you what I mean.
I have a friend from Austria that told me that the dough is ready when you can read a newspaper trough the dough…..with mine I could see the shape of Lake of Garda on the kitchen cloth underneath…..
After making your dough super thin you just have to add apples and fold sides.
With the help of the kitchen cloth roll the Strudel tight.
Seal it and bake it.
I like to serve my strudel dusted with icing sugar, but feel free to enjoy it with Creme Anglaise, a dollop of whipped cream or a yummy scoop of vanilla ice cream.

“Eat breakfast like a king, lunch like a prince and dinner like a pauper.”
Shouldn’t we all do it? Haven’t we heard enough time how important is a balance breakfast? But, how difficult it is in the morning to prepare a healthy or healthish breakfast for the family?
So many thing can go wrong in the morning: kids not waking up, alarm not going off or been snoozed for to long…..
I am sure you like to look at Pinterest perfect breakfast pictures and wonder how can I have a great healthy breakfast ready in no time in the morning? How fantastic will be to wake up and prepare in under 10 minutes poached eggs on toast with super healthy steam asparagus or have your favorite spinach and peas crustless quiche ready to bite or than again not so healthy but super delicious berries french toast? It all comes down to planning ahead and be organized. Make your prep in the evening. Don’t leave anything to last-minute. I know it sound like a cliché, but let me tell you, it is all true, the more we organize our days the less stressed(at least food wise) will be. Ok listen I am not a super organize person, I like to improvise and be super creative with what I see at the market, but to make my life easier and like I said above stress free (food wise) I need some planning.
